PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY AND ART IN ACTION
Having attended sessions at Sprotbrough Library since January 2013, I can thoroughly recommend this course. It is provided through the School of Economic Science, an educational charity based in Oxfordshire. Its primary object is to promote the study of natural laws governing relations in human society and the real concern of philosophy is to find and understand universal principles that are the common ground of all human understanding.
The course encourages the free sharing of the practical experiences of course members without being dogmatic or domineering. I have found it a very enjoyable way of exploring life and how it might be lived for the betterment of all.
One of the ways in which the School promotes its work is by holding an ART IN ACTION festival at its HQ, Waterperry House and Gardens, near Oxford, in July each year. This is now the leading art and craft festival of its kind in the UK and visitors are able to take part in many of the crafts on display, which are in turn demonstrated for the instruction and entertainment of its 25,000+ visitors each year. My husband, Mick, and I attended for two days this year and only just had time to see all that was on offer whilst actually participating in very little. The provisional dates for 2016 are 14-17 July and we expect to return.

APPEAL FROM LYNNE BARNETT IN CAMBODIA
Dear Friends,
As most of you know, my heart has been in Cambodia for the past eleven
years. In a country that has been
devastated by poverty and the Genocide of the late 1970’s, these people are in
dire need of love and direction, as well as the healing love of Jesus.
Just to let you know, Cambodia is 32nd
out of 56, of the hungriest nations in the world. Over 77% of Cambodia is
illiterate and out of the 15 million people, 80% are under the age of 30.
A United Nations report states that more than 1 in 5 Cambodian men
between the ages of 18 and 49 admitted to having raped a woman, and 49% of men
interviewed in Cambodia
have admitted to paying for sex.
This is the reality of which I am now living. I have recently become the
Consultant Therapist for Destiny Rescue in Siem Reap. I am also using my skills as a nurse to alleviate
health concerns within the project. On top of this, I will be running several
training sessions for the Khmer people in regards to communication skills,
positive and healthy relationships as well as life skills training. We
currently have 24 girls who are with us. They have all been working at places
that have sold them for sex, or put them at risk of being sold for sex.
This is a much needed position here in Cambodia and I feel strongly that
God is calling me to be here. However,
as a volunteer position, I am responsible for raising funds to support my
living expenses while I am here. I have
committed to be here, as long as I can continue to raise support.
I need approximately £10,000 a year to live/work here, or approximately
£830/month. Currently I am receiving
approximately £95 per month from various donors.
I am in need of receiving more support to be able to continue my work
here in Cambodia .
I am asking you to prayerfully consider what you are able to contribute as I
strive to be ‘a light in the darkness’ to these children in need.
If
you are interested in supporting me, I would ask that you contact:
