APPEAL FROM LYNNE BARNETT IN CAMBODIA

Dear Friends,

As most of you know, my heart has been in Cambodia for the past eleven years.  In a country that has been devastated by poverty and the Genocide of the late 1970’s, these people are in dire need of love and direction, as well as the healing love of Jesus.

Just to let you know, Cambodia is 32nd out of 56, of the hungriest nations in the world. Over 77% of Cambodia is illiterate and out of the 15 million people, 80% are under the age of 30.
A United Nations report states that more than 1 in 5 Cambodian men between the ages of 18 and 49 admitted to having raped a woman, and 49% of men interviewed in Cambodia have admitted to paying for sex.

This is the reality of which I am now living. I have recently become the Consultant Therapist for Destiny Rescue in Siem Reap.  I am also using my skills as a nurse to alleviate health concerns within the project. On top of this, I will be running several training sessions for the Khmer people in regards to communication skills, positive and healthy relationships as well as life skills training. We currently have 24 girls who are with us. They have all been working at places that have sold them for sex, or put them at risk of being sold for sex.

This is a much needed position here in Cambodia and I feel strongly that God is calling me to be here.  However, as a volunteer position, I am responsible for raising funds to support my living expenses while I am here.  I have committed to be here, as long as I can continue to raise support.

I need approximately £10,000 a year to live/work here, or approximately £830/month.  Currently I am receiving approximately £95 per month from various donors.

I am in need of receiving more support to be able to continue my work here in Cambodia. I am asking you to prayerfully consider what you are able to contribute as I strive to be ‘a light in the darkness’ to these children in need.

If you are interested in supporting me, I would ask that you contact:
